Parnell Library "gallery talk" Sun. Jan 30th!

from Libbie Rodgers, president of the Montevallo Arts Council =

Dear Friends,
The Montevallo Arts Council (www.montevalloartscouncil.org) invites you to the gallery talks and reception honoring Jesse Cunningham (potter/sculptor) and Paul Cordes Wilm (painter) on Sunday, January 30, at 2:00 p. m. at Parnell Memorial Library. Works by Jesse and Paul constitute the 2011 Winter Exhibit in the Parnell Gallery. The exhibit opened on January 24 and will close on Friday, March 11.
We look forward to seeing you on Sunday afternoon to honor and learn from these former UM students who are practicing artists and art teachers.
Here is a brief biographical sketch about each of them:

Clay artist Jesse Cunningham, born in Fairfield, California, lived in places as different as Alaska and Chilton County, Alabama during his growing up years as he and his military family moved frequently. A graduate of the University of Montevallo, he has taught visual arts for almost twenty-one years and presently teaches in the Shelby County School System. His special interests as a practicing artist are sculpture and photography.

Paul Cordes Wilm calls himself a Southern painter, since he grew up in Mobile and now lives in Birmingham. He is a full-time artist whose work has been called "Folk-Pop," a term that Paul has decided to use, though "most of the pieces lean more to the 'Pop' side of things." His works, often tinged with humor and sarcasm, embody his strong commitment to recycling, since they are created largely from recycled materials.

Hope to see you at the library on Sunday at 2.

I spent the days leading up to Xmas 2010 working on a ton of xmas commission paintings, many of which were portraits of people's dogs (!) haha ...

I've also been working on the show that's mentioned above ... (Parnell Memorial Library) it's been exciting working on the pieces cuz I'm toying with a direction I've been wanting to toy with for a while ... more experiemental, surreal and playful ... Can't wait to see all the pieces together once they're installed!
